Artist's Statement

Like the artists and alchemists, who centuries ago went to the banks of the rivers to get their pigments and minerals, my life has been thus far a profession in science but in parallel, a devotion to and execution of my art. My oil painting and pastel work began in the 70’s with studio classes at various Ohio art schools and culminated in a BA from Cleveland State University in 1981.

Relocating to Winston-Salem in 1992, I found a community that nurtured and appreciated the artists of the area. Joining the Associated Artists of Winston-Salem(AAWS), I served on the Executive Board of Directors and am a President. I am now actively working in pastels, watercolors and oils and pursuing a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree at UNCG.

My career in science involved an understanding of design and color, reflection of light, textures of materials but in a very structured and confined way. My use of design and color in her artwork today is less structured, impressionistic, and boundless.

My work is currently being exhibited in local colleges and universities at AAWS shows and various community exhibit sites. My art can also be viewed  by selecting my name at www.associatedartists.org and www.muddyriverart.org
